Photo Story 3 - A Quick Tutorial
Photo Story 3 is a Free program from Microsoft that is very easy to use and allows you to create your own short movies using photos. Download Photo Story 3. The download requires you to be using a legal, validated copy of windows and Microsoft will scan your system to verify. If you're not using a legitimate copy you won't be able to download and Microsoft will prompt you to get a legitimate copy installed. Below is an example of a finished project of pictures of Colorado without narration or music followed by step by step instructions with screen shots on how to create a project.

This is the Welcome Screen once you have download and installed the program then
double click on the desktop shortcut icon. Choose "Begin a New Story" and click Next.
This is the screen where you import the pictures you want to use in your story.
Click the "Import Pictures" button and it will open up "My Pictures" on your hard
drive. Hold down the Ctrl key to select multiple photos then select OK. Click Next.
On this screen you have the option of removing the black borders that you see.
Simply click on the button. If you forget and click Next a pop up reminder will show
asking if you want to continue without removing black borders.
This shows the before and after of each picture with black borders. You can go
through them one at a time by selecting "Yes" or all at once by selecting "Yes to All"
On this screen you can add titles to individual pictures by simply typing in what you
want the title to be in the box that is highlighted. Use your mouse pointer to select
the next photo that you want to add a title to. Click Next when finished.
Here you can add narration if you have a microphone on your computer as well as
customize the motion. It's a good idea to select "Preview" before moving on to make
sure it looks the way you want it to. Click next to proceed.
Here you can add Music to your project in much the same way that you imported
pictures. Click "Select Music" and search for the music file you'd like to add. Again,
click on "Preview" before proceeding.
You're almost done and now have to save your story. You have several choices
and the easiest is to just save it on your computer as you can always add it as an
attachment when you want to send it in an email.
Pay attention to the File name and where it is being saved so you can find it easily
later. If you don't like the default location then click on the "browse" button to
specify the folder where you'd like it saved.
A good profile to save to is #2 (640x480) as it won't be to large and will still look
good. The example at the top of the page is created in this size. If you used a lot of
pictures or want as small as file as possible for email the use (320x240) or one of
the email profiles shown in the drop down menu.
Once you hit "OK" in the screen above your story has been saved and the screen
below shows you where. When you hit exit it will ask if you want to save the project.
Choose yes if you think you'll be working with same photos again.
